The Collie Throne

I was contacted by the owner of The Rocking Horse Cafe, Andrew, to create a feature piece for the cafe entrance that would attract attention. After a few meetings we settled on creating a large seat that customers would be able to sit upon and have their picture taken, a memory that they could share with friends and family and on social media. I had a large piece of Ash timber that wasn’t very high but had a lot of width, this would make the perfect foundation for a seat or what would turn into the throne. As a dog friendly cafe the subject manner came apparent. Andrew’s two Border Collies are the life and soul of the cafe greeting all customers as they enter the cafe. A very challenging carve to create, taking some time to shape the collies faces with expression.
